GT Law grows tax team in Mexico

Greenberg Traurig has announced the addition of a tax team to its Mexico City office, with Eduardo Medina Zapata joining as partner and Erika Báez Elizondo as senior tax advisor. Two associates and a law clerk have also joined the team.

Eduardo Medina (pictured right) has more than 25 years of experience, focusing on tax advice, planning and structuring of public and private real estate investment funds. He has represented clients in structuring joint ventures, corporate reorganisations and cross-border transactions. He previously worked at the law firm of Jáuregui y Del Valle. He obtained a doctorate in law from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, completed postgraduate studies in tax law at the Universidad Panamericana and obtained a master’s degree in international tax law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.

Erika Báez (pictured left) is an accountant and financial specialist who previously worked at Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa as a tax consultant. Her practice focuses on the analysis and development of tax strategies for private and public companies based in Mexico and abroad. She earned a double degree in Public Accounting and Financial Strategy and Business Administration from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and a Master’s degree in Tax Law with honors from the Universidad Panamericana.

The other team members joining Greenberg Traurig’s Mexico office are associates Jessica Paz and Felipe Morales, and law clerk Pamela Huerta.

In the past year, Greenberg Traurig’s Mexico office has expanded its practice areas, including the launch of its Employment Practice with the addition of eight lawyers, led by shareholder Leslie Palma and attorney Marité Villanueva; as well as the Commercial Litigation Practice with the addition of Alejandro Ostos Fulda, who joined as a shareholder along with a team of three lawyers and a law clerk.
