Guerrero Olivos, Linklaters and Rodrigo instructed on CSG´s $5.4bn acquisition

Guerrero Olivos,  Rodrigo Elias & Medrano and Linklaters acted for China Southern Power Grid (CSG) on a $5.4 billion acquisition which spanned Chile, Peru, and Spain. 

 

 With this operation, China Southern Power Grid (CSG) acquired Brookfield Infrastructure’s 27.8% stake in ETC, the parent company of Transelec, which is Chile´s largest pure-play power transmission company. 

Brookfield Infrastructure is a global alternative asset manager headquartered in Canada. 

CSG is a Chinese state-owned utility which focuses on investment, construction and management of power transmission, transformation and distribution covering China’s five southern provinces. 

 

Linklaters lawyers in Hong Kong, New York and Sao Paulo worked together providing international counsel to CSG. Partners Gilbert Li and Alberto Luzárraga led the team. 

CSG instructed Guerrero Olivos in Chile. Roberto Guerrero led a team which also included partners Sebastián Abogabir, Clemente Pérez and Macarena Ravinet. 

Rodrigo, Elías & Medrano provided Peruvian counsel to CSG, with partners Jean Paul Chabaneix, Veronica Sattler and Fernando Molina at the forefront. 

On the seller side, Brookfield instructed Goodmans in Canada, with partners Lawrence Chernin, Sheldon Freeman and Michelle Vigod in Toronto as lead counsel. The company also called upon Herbert Smith Freehills in Madrid, with partner Ignacio Paz fronting the team. In Chile, Brookfield instructed lawyers at Carey led by partner Salvador Valdés. 

Transelec relied on in-house counsel for the deal.
