Guyer & Regules advises BBVA on bond issuance
Guyer & Regules in collaboration with DLA Piper have assisted BBVA in a $15 million bond issuance
Uruguayan law firm Guyer & Regules and DLA Piper LLP in New York, have advised BBVA bank on the issuance of $15 million, the first sustainable bond in the country. The transaction was closed as of late February 2021.
With this issue, BBVA Uruguay aims to expand its portfolio of sustainable projects. The bank will use the funds to help small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as initiatives related to the efficient use of energy, agriculture, green transport and sustainable construction.
Sustainable finance activity has become more popular among Latin American countries in recent years. In January, IDB Invest provided to Promerica, a Costa Rican bank a $20 million credit guarantee line to back the first sustainable bond programme in Central America, with a value of $50 million.
