HD Legal hires new director to lead different areas
HD Legal has incorpored Alberto Vergara (pictured) as new director to head its Constitutional, Administrative law practice.
Lawyer from the Catholic University of Chile, Master of Laws (LLM) from Northwestern University, USA, with more than 20 years of professional experience in international banks, serving as Director of Litigation, Regulation and Corporate Governance at BBVA and Director of Litigation at Scotiabank, participating in the merger of both banks in Chile.
He also has experience in the public sector, as coordinator of the Legal Division of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of the Presidency, co-leading the team of lawyers who advised former president Sebastian Piñera on a wide range of issues during his first government. Later, he took on the role of General Counsel of the Ministry of Education, one of the most complex and with the largest budget in the Chilean state. He has also been an associate at the law firms Arteaga & Gorziglia and Baker & McKenzie, advising local and international clients.
Mr. Vergara is a professor in the Department of Public Law at the Catholic University of Chile, who has been teaching for 20 years. He has extensive experience advising local and international clients, companies, public entities and non-profit organizations on public, constitutional and administrative law, banking and financial regulation, as well as antitrust, corporate governance, consumer protection, litigation and arbitration.
He has published extensively on constitutional and antitrust law. In addition, he serves as a board member of a privately-held company and has been a board member of non-profit legal entities.
