HFW signs cooperation agreement with Brazilian firm CAL
Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) announced it has entered into a cooperation agreement with CAL, a newly launched firm in Brazil.
HFW is an international law firm with a focus on clients with interests in the sectors of construction, aviation, shipping, insurance, commodities and energy.
CAL was founded by the insurance team from Tauil & Chequer Advogados in cooperation with Mayer Brown. The firm will operate from offices in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and is fronted by partner Julio Costa, who is best known for is aviation expertise.
HFW has had an outpost in Sao Paulo since 2011. Fernando Albino, partner in Sao Paulo, will also join CAL with other colleagues.
In the announcement, Julio Costa said: “I am thrilled to be joining a firm with such strong and longstanding ties to the aviation and insurance sectors. Being part of such a large and specialist global team will be hugely beneficial to my clients. We are also very excited about the opportunities for CAL, and have ambitious plans to grow and develop our practices to align with HFW’s business.”
HFW has been in expansion mode over the last year, this is the seventh international merger or cooperation arrangement the firm has completed since January 2016. At present, the firm is home to almost 600 fee-earners, including 180 partners, in 19 offices across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
