H&K Colombia adds new of counsel

Holland & Knight Colombia has announced the addition of Milton Fernando Montoya (pictured) as new of counsel to strengthen the firm’s Energy and Natural Resources team, bringing with him a team of three associates, including Manuel José Ocampo, Ernesto Guzmán and Nathalia Vásquez.

José Vicente Zapata, lead partner of the team to which the new members join, stated: “Milton’s experience in mining matters allows us to complement our team and offer our clients a more comprehensive service, always with the objective of helping them meet their goals and objectives. We are very proud of the team we have built over several years and the capabilities we can offer as a firm to the industry.”

Milton Fernando holds a law degree from the Universidad Externado de Colombia, a diploma in electricity and gas regulation from the same university, a master’s degree in Energy Law, a doctorate in law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a certificate of postdoctoral studies from the University of Dundee (UK), where he is also an honorary professor.

He has more than 20 years of experience and joins from his boutique law firm Estudio Jurídico Montoya y Asociados, where he focused his practice in advising the mining and energy sector, including transfer of titles, sale of companies, due diligence of contracts, administrative requirements, subrogation of mining rights, integration of titles, formalisation processes, litigation and support in the formulation of public policy and regulation of hydrogen in Colombia, among other services related to the mining sector.

In addition to his professional practice, Milton serves as professor and research director of the Department of Mining and Energy Law at the Universidad Externado de Colombia and has extensive teaching experience in mining matters.

Thanks to these additions, the Energy and Natural Resources team is integrated into a team that also includes partner Inés Elvira Vesga Gaviria, senior counsel Juan Casallas Romero and a team of 15 associate lawyers.
