Hogan Lovells adds Privacy and Cybersecurity partner
Hogan Lovells has announced the addition of Guillermo Larrea (pictured) as a partner to strengthen the firm’s Privacy and Cybersecurity practice area.
Larrea, who joins the firm from Jones Day, will join the Global Regulatory and Intellectual Property practice group in the Mexico City office. Larrea advises clients on privacy and cybersecurity matters, including cyber incident response and litigation, while maintaining his leadership in white collar matters related to anti-corruption compliance and related investigations and enforcement.
Larrea is recognised as a leader in two areas. His privacy and data security work addresses emerging data-related issues, including international transfers, data breaches, cloud computing contracts, e-commerce, and the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain, focusing on their security and compliance implications in the region. He also assists clients with corporate compliance across Latin America, leading a team that handles anti-corruption, fraud and money laundering advisory matters and investigations and compliance for domestic and multinational companies. He has a strong track record in investigating allegations of corruption under Mexico’s National Anti-Corruption System, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and the UK Bribery Act.
Larrea’s experience allows him to effectively overcome cultural and linguistic barriers, which is particularly valuable when explaining Latin American business practices to foreign entities and vice versa. His regional focus extends beyond Mexico, giving him an advantage in handling multi-jurisdictional matters throughout Latin America. Larrea has been at the forefront of cybersecurity and privacy since 2015, developing global data protection programmes across Latin America and the world, and leading initiatives in Fintech and responsible use of AI.
Larrea earned his J.D. from the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico, a Master of Laws and a Certificate in Business and Public Policy and a degree in Financial Strategies from the University of Pennsylvania.
