Hogan Lovells hires former White House trade adviser
Hogan Lovells has hired Kelly Ann Shaw, the US President’s former Deputy Assistant for International Economic Affairs and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council, as a partner, and who was the lead negotiator for the US at the G7, G20 and APEC and played an instrumental role in a wide range of legislation, negotiations and agreements, including the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and the China Phase One agreement.
She joins the firm as a partner in its International Trade and Investment practice. Shaw will also play an important role in the firm’s Government Relations and Public Affairs practice.
“After nearly a decade of government service, I am excited to return to private practice. I have worked with and come to know many of the trade and public policy lawyers at Hogan Lovells and am very pleased to be joining such a strong and reputable international team,” Shaw (pictured) said.
“There have been many significant developments related to trade, investment and other key global economic policies over the last few years, with more to come — I look forward to assisting and positioning our clients to successfully navigate those changing tides.”
Prior to her service at the White House, Shaw held important positions with the US Trade Representative (USTR) in both Washington, DC. and in Geneva, Switzerland ,and with the US House of Representatives Committee on Ways & Means.
“At a time when the rules of global trade and economics are constantly being tested and changed, having a lawyer like Kelly Ann on our team will be a tremendous boon for our clients,” Alice Valder Curran, leader of Hogan Lovells’ Global Regulatory practice, said. “Her reputation for working across both sides of the aisle to get things done and her experience at the highest levels of government are an excellent fit for our firm and a great addition to our already lauded international trade and investment and government relations practices.”
Shaw received her JD with honors from Columbia University School of Law along with a Certificate in Global Business Law from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and an MSc with honors from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
