Honduras extends curfew

Honduras has extended its curfew, imposed to curb the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, to May 24 at 23:00hrs, with citizens’ movements continuing to be restricted.

Fanny Rodríguez of AriasThe Central American country’s risk management agency (SINAGER) announced in a statement that the curfew has been extended for a further week and citizens will only be allowed out to carry out essential activities or make essential purchases.

This is the eighth time the curfew has been extended, and which was first imposed in mid-March.

Citizens will only be allowed out of their homes on certain days, from Monday to Friday, depending on the last number of their identity card or passport to avoid crowding, and citizens are required to wear face masks, according to a note from Arias Law penned by Fanny Rodríguez (pictured), a partner in the law firm’s Tegucigalpa office.

Essential purchases include food, medicine, fuel or to carry out administrative processes, and only between 07:00 and 17:00hrs.

Honduras has so far recorded 146 deaths from the virus, with more than 2,700 confirmed cases.
