Invenergy engages White & Case for Colombia partnership

White & Case has advised Invenergy, as special counsel, in connection with Invenergy’s formation of a strategic partnership to develop, build and operate nearly 500 megawatts of large-scale wind and solar energy projects in Colombia by 2025 with Empresas Públicas de Medellin (EPM).

Rodrigo Dominguez of White & CaseUS-based Invenergy is a privately held global developer and operator of sustainable energy solutions, while EPM is one of Colombia’s largest public electric utilities, and the partnership combines Invenergy’s renewable development and operational expertise with EPM’s domestic know-how to advance Colombia’s renewable energy transformation.

Invenergy will leverage its expertise in engineering, finance, construction and operations and maintenance, and EPM will provide power purchase agreements and development support under mutual exclusivity during the partnership.

The projects will grow EPM’s portfolio of competitive and sustainable solutions that provide clean energy to Colombia.

“The transaction represents a groundbreaking development for the country of Colombia, which is seen as the largest renewable energy market yet to be developed in the Americas,” the law firm said. “The transaction also represents Invenergy’s entrance into the Colombian market, which adds to their already significant presence in Latin America.”

The White & Case team that advised on this transaction was led by partners Rodrigo Dominguez (pictured) in Houston and Carlos Viana in Miami, and included associate Luisa Muskus in Houston.
