Larrain participates in production of Mapuche TV documentary

Chilean law firm Larrain y Asociados advised film production company Productora Viento Sur on the production of a series screened on national network TVN

Víctor Manuel AvilésThe production company is affiliated to Fundación Viento Sur, a Chilean non-profit engaged in addressing social and environmental issues in Chile, and produced the series “Gente de la tierra” (People of the Land), by director Marcelo Tarud, and which was premiered on Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN).

The law firm was engaged to assist the development of the project from the beginning, taking care of corporate, labour and intellectual property aspects.

Additionally, Larrain partner Víctor Manuel Avilés (pictured) was personally involved in the execution of the project and in the selection of undertakings, ancestral activities and topics to be discussed.

In each chapter of the series, a public figure travels to Araucanía in southern Chile to get to know the Mapuche culture, an indigenous group of Chile’s central-south region, and who also inhabit southwestern Argentina and part of Patagonia, with an estimated population of around 1.9 million people.

Filming of the series began in late 2018 and included the participation of several communities in the region.

This was the first television series in Chile to broadcast in the Mapuche language, Mapudungun, of which there are estimated to be around 150,000 native speakers.

Avilés was assisted in the project by Larrain associates Sebastián Prieto and Teresita Vinagre.
