Latin America helps Kennedys hit record turnover
Kennedys has reported a record turnover of £238 million ($299.4 million) for the financial year 2019/20, a 9 per cent increase on the previous 12 months, with a strong performance in various regions, including Latin America.
Europe and Latin America have performed particularly well, supported in part by continued UK growth following the arrival of a 12-strong team from Norton Rose Fulbright last summer and growth in Portugal by way of a merger, the firm said.
The firm saw a 7 per cent increase in headcount worldwide during the financial year, taking staff numbers to 2,150, having made 20 lateral hires, strengthening its offering in Australia, Chile, Ireland, Peru, Portugal, Singapore, UAE, the US and the UK.
Turnover in Latin America totalled £6.6 million ($8.3 million), while North America and Bermuda accounted for £40.4 million ($50.8 million).
UK turnover was £139 million ($174.9 million), up 9.7 per cent on the previous year.
The number of fee earners at the firm globally rose by 10 per cent.
Nick Thomas (pictured), senior partner at Kennedys, commented on the results, saying, “These are impressive results, the obvious difficulties of the last two months of our financial year notwithstanding. We have continued to grow in all our key markets. As we embark on the next financial year, we do so with a careful eye on the continuing impact of Covid-19 upon our clients, but with cautious optimism.”
He said the firm expects to welcome more lawyers to its San Francisco office, which opened earlier this year, in addition to further expansions within the firm’s network this year.
