LC Publishing Group presents conference focusing on Latin America

As part of its Legalcommunity week, LC Publishing group hosted a Latin America market conference on 7 July with a focus on Brazil, Mexico and Peru

 Held annually, in this fifth edition of Legalcommunity week, on 7 July, and with the support of DLA Piper and Accuracy, the conference “LatAm’s energy and construction industries: trick or t(h)reat?” took place from 14:30 to 19:00 hrs. in Milan.

Conducted simultaneously in English and Italian, and broadcasted live, the event started with brief welcome messages from Aldo Scaringella, managing director of LC Publishing Group, Stefano Modenesi, partner and location head litigation and regulatory of DLA Piper and Giovanni Foti, partner of Accuracy, as well as Eduardo dos Santos, Ambassador, Consulate General of Brazil in Milan, who invited investors to bet on Brazil.

The first talk “Doing business in the Latin America Region: Trick or T(h)reat?”, moderated by Ilaria Iaquinta, Managing Editor LC Publishing Group, was attended by: Sara Gandolfi, journalist at Corriere della Sera; Antonella Mori, head of Latin America program, ISPI and Bocconi University; and Michele Pala, director for Latin America and the Caribbean – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The speakers provided the attendees with context on the geopolitical and economic scenario in Latin America, as well as the opportunities for investment in the region.

The discussion continued with “Investing in Latin America: dos and don’ts. Lessons learned and success stories”, also moderated by Ilaria Iaquinta, where the speakers, who spoke about their experiences in LatAm and the challenges they faced in adapting to the region, were the following: Carolina T. Arroyo, Legal counsel – Italy, Lendlease; Francesco Ferrari, partner, DLA Piper; Edoardo Marcenaro, head of Legal & Corporate Affairs, Enel Global Infrastructure and Networks; and Gregory Odry, senior Legal counsel at Engie.

Finally, followed by a coffee break, the session concluded with the segment “Is international arbitration an efficient tool to enhance foreign investments in the region? The user’s view (the counsel, the arbitrator, the expert and the investor’s perspective)”, moderated by Federica Bocci, International Arbitration counsel and arbitrator – lead lawyer, DLA Piper, and with the participation of Ricardo Ampuero Llerena, independent counsel; Gerardo Lozano, senior partner, DLA Piper; Maria Irene Perruccio, Legal and Corporate Affairs department | Legal Department – International, Webuild; and Eduard Saura, managing partner – Spain, Accuracy. They discussed the changes in arbitration in recent years in Peru, Mexico and Brazil, as well as methods that can make investors feel more secure.
