Lefosse advises Vitru on the purchase of the Unicesumar
Lefosse Advogados advised Vitru Brasil on the acquisition of Unicesumar educational institution
Lefosse Advogados provided legal advice for another major transaction in the education area. The law firm worked with Grupo Vitru – whose holding company Vitru Limited is listed on Nasdaq – in the acquisition by Vitru Brasil of Unicesumar. The value of the transaction was R$ 3.2 billion.
The negotiation between Vitru and Unicesumar involved two companies in the education sector. Vitru has a prominent position in distance education in Brazil. With the purchase it has consolidated their performance and can start offering a face-to-face medical course. Unicesumar was founded 30 years ago in Maringá (PR) and has a considerable presence in on-site courses related to health. The company has more than 1,600 students from over 340 different medical roles and is still in the expansion phase.
Lefosse’s work involved a multidisciplinary team formed by partners from Corporate practice Luiz Octavio Lopes (pictured left), from Competition and Regulation, José Carlos Berardo (pictured centre), and from Tax, Breno Sarpi (pictured right). Senior lawyers Lígia Padovani from Corporate practice, Mariana Rodrigues of Real Estate, Elen Lizas of Competition and Regulation were involved. Counsel Alessandra Cony of the Corporate area, and associates Carlos Lopes, Aline Januário, Luiz Loureiro, Daniela Bezerra, Gabriella Pousa and Jéssica Ribeiro were also part of the team.
