Madruga BTW announces new partner

Madruga BTW – a law firm specializing in Criminal and Administrative Law – has announced the arrival of Marcelo Cavali (pictured). The new partner will work in the areas of financial and capital markets criminal law, litigation and administrative sanctions law.

Cavali worked for 15 years as a Federal Judge at the São Paulo Specialized Court for Financial Crimes and Money Laundering. He was responsible for handing down the first sentences for the crimes of insider trading and capital market manipulation. He has conducted and tried relevant money laundering and financial crimes cases.
He has been an instructor and assistant judge at the Federal Supreme Court, the Superior Court of Justice, the Superior Electoral Court and the National Council of Justice (CNJ).
He holds a PhD in Criminal Law from the University of São Paulo (USP), was a researcher at Columbia Law School and did post-doctoral work at Harvard Law School. He is Professor of Economic Criminal Law at FGV-SP.
Since May 2023, he has also been Legislative Consultant to the Federal Senate in the areas of criminal law, criminal procedure and public security.
