Marcos Veríssimo Advogados is a new boutique law firm
The former member of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) Marcos Paulo Verissimo (pictured left) has just launched the boutique law firm Marcos Veríssimo Advogados, with activities focused on competition law and related areas.
The law firm also counts with partner Ana Carolina Lopes de Carvalho (pictured right), who worked for almost 10 years as a civil servant at the Brazilian antitrust agency, having held, among other positions, the position of chief of staff of the agency’s counsel and president.
Besides the practice in economic and competition law, MV Advogados also practices in related areas, such as anti-corruption, compliance, regulatory law, constitutional law, disputes and arbitration.
The services offered by the firm range from the preparation of legal opinions and opinions to the provision of strategic consulting services, answering inquiries and designing business practices, composing arbitration panels, crisis management, and strategic support to litigation, in addition to representing clients before public authorities.
Marcos Verissimo has more than 25 years of experience in business law. He worked for 10 years as a partner at Machado Meyer Advogados, was a Counselor at CADE and member of the senior management of Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES).
In his professional career, he represented several of the largest global companies with operations in Brazil in administrative proceedings before CADE, CGU, the Public Ministry, regulatory agencies and other public agencies, acting in investigations and large business concentration transactions.
He is a PhD Professor of the Department of State Law at USP Law School and was a professor at FGV-SP Law School in São Paulo, at OAB-SP Law School and at the Brazilian Society of Public Law (SBDP). He holds a master’s and doctorate from USP Law School and was a visiting scholar at Yale University Law School.
Ana Carolina Lopes de Carvalho has 20 years of professional experience. She worked for almost a decade as a CADE’s employee, having actively participated in the design and implementation of the new regulations adopted after the publication of the current Competition Law, in 2011.
She represented the agency in several international forums, such as the Competition Forum of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Ibero-American Forum. He participated in the elaboration of CADE’s Guides on Gun Jumping and Compliance, internationally awarded initiatives.
Before joining Marcos Verissimo Advogados, she worked almost seven years as a senior lawyer at Machado Meyer Advogados. She holds a BA in Law and a specialist in Constitutional Law from UNB and a Master in Economic Law from the Law School of USP.
