Mattos Filho is now offering 60 days’ parental leave to employees who act as secondary caregivers to their children – whether biological or adopted. The decision is a first among full-service law firms in Brazil and can be granted to either parent, regardless of gender. Flexible by nature, the 60 days can be taken during any period within the first 12 years of the child’s life, with the exception of the first five days which must be used immediately after the child’s birth, as per Brazilian law.

The firm is also pioneering another initiative in the legal market, which offers leave to female professionals seeking to undergo in vitro fertilization. Depending on the requirements of the in vitro method, a period of between five and ten days will be offered.

Mattos Filho has made supporting its professionals’ family environment part of its standard global practice. Having adopted a 180-day maternity leave policy since 2011, the firm has also developed programs to support professionals both during and after pregnancy. Mattos Filho also counts on the support of its EmFamilia affinity group, which is made up of mothers and fathers who are dedicated to fostering a supportive organizational culture for parents at the firm.

Such initiatives serve to reinforce Mattos Filho’s commitment to promoting gender equality policies, as well as the firm’s engagement in encouraging legislation for equal treatment in corporate environments.
