Mayer Brown advises Ojo de Tigre on buyout by Pernod Ricard

Mayer Brown in Mexico City has advised premium mezcal brand Ojo de Tigre on its sale to Pernod Ricard México, the world’s second-largest wine and spirits producer.

Raúl Fernández BriseñoOjo de Tigre is a subsidiary of Casa Lumbre, and the transaction was carried out by its existing shareholders through a Mexican control trust incorporated for such purposes.

Ojo de Tigre is a small-batch, artisanal mezcal crafted according to ancient traditions, and which is produced from sustainable agave sources of the Tobalá and Espadín varieties, creating a smooth, sweet and herbal taste profile that can be savoured neat or in cocktails.

Ojo de Tigre strengthens Pernod Ricard’s presence in mezcal, following the group’s entry into the category in 2017 with a majority stake in Del Maguey Single Village Mezcal.

Casa Lumbre is a company dedicated to crafting “farm-to-bottle” Mexican premium spirit propositions with sensorial uniqueness.

The group has a strong focus on place of origin, sustainability, and original methods of production. Casa Lumbre has created brands such as Ancho Reyes Liqueur and Montelobos Mezcal.

Mayer Brown’s corporate M&A team in Mexico City included Raúl Fernández-Briseño (pictured), Javier Garibay, Sebastián Fernández-Alonso and Eduardo Rojas-Brandao.

As reported by The Latin American Lawyer in July, Pernod Ricard was advised by White & Case.
