Morales & Besa promotes new partner

Morales & Besa has promoted associate Andrea Díaz as new partner

Morales & Besa has promoted associate Andrea Díaz as a new partner as of 1 July. Andrea, who has been part of the firm since 2007, said: “I am very proud to take this step in my career in a place like Morales & Besa, where I have had the opportunity to learn and grow in a field in which historically our firm has been very prominent and that has a low female participation in the local legal market. I am grateful for the recognition of my partners, and of course, of all those who have accompanied and supported me during my career […] undoubtedly the current context is challenging in terms of capital markets, and requires taking advantage of ‘market windows’, executing operations in record time, and supporting clients in adapting their business to regulatory changes that are coming in the near future, especially regarding Fintech and sustainable investment matters (ESG)”.

In this new role, she looks forward to contributing to the firm’s Diversity Committee, of which she has been a member for a couple of years, as well as supporting the training of younger associates and working to further develop the firm’s capital markets and corporate governance practices.

For his part, Guillermo Morales, founding partner of the firm, said: “Andrea has the full confidence of our law partnership for the excellent and integral person that she is and her outstanding professional accomplishments. Our clients follow her advice and rely on her judgement. For some time now she has been in charge of some of the most challenging and innovative capital markets transactions undertaken by our firm. Just as important Andrea stands out as a true team player and a dedicated developer of young talent. Always happy and willing to share time, knowledge, and experience with our younger associates. These personal and professional traits are a harbinger of the many and important contributions that Andrea will add to the collective goals of our firm”.

Andrea is a graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and began her career at Morales & Besa in 2007, although her relationship with the firm began earlier when, as a student, she joined the firm’s Summer Program as an intern. During 2019 in the face of an increased volume of capital markets regulatory advisory work at the firm, Andrea led the expansion of the practice. She has been recognised as a “Rising Star” in her speciality by the legal rankings IFLR1000 and Legal 500, being one of the two women highlighted by the latter in Chile.

With this appointment, women now represent 36% of the company’s partners, with 4 women out of 11 partners.
