New partner strengthens Demarest’s financial innovations area
Demarest Advogados has announced Marcus Fonseca (pictured) as its new partner. With 15 years’ experience in the sector, Marcus will work in the banking and finance area, focusing on providing services and consultancy related to the payment system, fintechs, virtual assets, crowdfunding, Open Finance, regulatory sandbox and blockchain technology, as well as developing new structures and business models.
Demarest’s new partner also advises clients on the creation of legal instruments, internal policies and the incorporation of financial and payment institutions, on regulatory aspects, among others. He also advises on matters related to foreign exchange transactions, derivatives, securitization, fund formation and compliance by financial institutions with relevant rules and regulations.
Marcus holds a master’s degree in Business Law from FGV Direito SP, a postgraduate degree in Business Law from the same institution and a law degree from PUC do Paraná. He worked at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York and at Banco JP Morgan in Brazil.
Since the second half of 2023, Demarest has intensified its expansion into the legal market. With Marcus’ arrival, the firm now has 99 partners working in more than 50 areas of law to serve more than 1,500 clients in Brazil and abroad.
