Patton Moreno hires former CEMEX Venezuela legal VP

Patton, Moreno & Asvat announced that Tomás Polanco has joined the law firm in Panama as international special counsel.

Tomás Polanco has had a extensive legal career which includes roles as legal vice president of CEMEX Venezuela, the Caribbean and Brazil (1994-2008), deputy legal consultant of the BBVA Provincial Bank (1990 – 1994) and partner of the law firm Polanco, Asuaje and Mármol Abogados in Venezuela (1983 – 1990).

His experience includes running complex corporate and financial transactions and providing advice on tax implications of M&A. Polanco has advised on the design and implementation of the mortgage financing system, the takeover of Corporación Venezolana de Cementos in Venezuela,  international mergers of cement-related operations in multiple jurisdictions in the Caribbean, and the design of the trust for the finance in US dollars of real estate property in Venezuela.

In addition, he participated in the preparation of draft legislation in Venezuela in financial, banking and securities markets areas. 

Polanco obtained a Doctorate in Law from the Central University of Venezuela and a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Columbia Law School, New York, United States America.

Prior to joining Patton Moreno, he acted as advisor to Venezuelan companies in Panama (pictured) and the region in corporate, contractual and regulator matters for a number of years.
