Pérez Bustamante & Ponce has hired Sebastián Cortez Merlo to reinforce the area

Pérez Bustamante & Ponce announced Sebastián Cortez Merlo (pictured) as new Energy partner. 

Sebastián Cortez Merlo focuses his practice on energy matters, exploration and exploitation of natural resources, and infrastructure projects. He advises companies on all regulatory issues related to their operations and activities in Ecuador.

Given his commercial understanding of the sector and business nous, he is frequently invited to join companies’ senior management committees, where he advises on the legal risks associated with their activities. He also works on corporate, environmental and dispute resolution matters.

Before joining PBP Sebastián Cortez Merlo worked for Noboa, Peña & Torres his whole career, during the last twenty years, where he work as a partner since 2013. He graduated at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, and has a LL.M. in International Legal Studies from the Washington College of Law at the American University. He has also postgraduate studies from Tulane University Law School and the Business School of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito.
