Pinheiro Guimarães announces seven new partners
Pinheiro Guimarães announced the promotion of seven lawyers to its partnership, enhancing the firm’s capabilities in the Capital Markets, Corporate and M&A, Litigation & Arbitration, Restructuring & Insolvency and Tax areas of practice. The newly appointed partners Frederico Mocarzel, Júlia Benvenuto, Nicholas Walter de Sousa and Ranna da Cunha Frota Vianna are based in Rio de Janeiro, and Larissa Taveira, Luiza Furtado and Thiago Paranho Neves are based in São Paulo.
Frederico Mocarzel has been a member of the firm since 2011 and has extensive experience in Restructuring & Insolvency as well as Litigation & Arbitration. He advises on complex disputes, insolvency proceedings, and large-scale corporate restructurings, with significant experience representing creditors in judicial and extrajudicial reorganizations, bankruptcy, liquidation, and cross-border insolvency matters. Frederico also supports other practice groups by providing guidance on litigation and insolvency-related issues arising in transactional contexts. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Fluminense Federal University (UFF), Niterói (2013).
Júlia Benvenuto specializes in banking and capital markets transactions and has been with Pinheiro Guimarães since 2010. Her practice includes advising financial institutions, governmental and multilateral development agencies, equity sponsors and corporate borrowers on domestic and cross-border bank financings, as well as on derivative transactions and on public and private offerings of debt securities, in addition to the structuring and offering of quotas of investment funds. Júlia holds an LLB from the Catholic University Law School, Rio de Janeiro (2013); a degree in Postgraduate Studies in Capital Markets and Corporate Law from the Law School of the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets – IBMEC, Rio de Janeiro (2015); and an LLM degree from the University of Chicago Law School (2018). She has also worked as a foreign associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in New York from 2018 to 2019. Júlia is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association and of the New York State Bar.
Larissa Taveira is a tax specialist focused on strategic tax advisory, with extensive experience in complex matters, including structuring of M&A and capital markets transactions, and tax liabilities risk assessment and risk management. She has been with Pinheiro Guimarães since 2021 and is a key member of the tax advisory team. She holds an LLB (2013) and an Accounting degree (2015), both from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in São Paulo, an LL.M. in Tax Law from Insper, São Paulo (2018), and a Master’s in Controllership and Finance from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, São Paulo (2021). She also completed an international program in International Taxation at Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave, Portugal (2020).
Luiza Furtado has been a key member of the firm since 2010, building a distinguished career in financial and capital markets with deep experience across both equity and debt transactions. She advises leading financial institutions, corporations, and investors on a wide range of capital markets matters, including fixed-income and equity offerings and domestic and international debt restructurings. Her track record includes public and private securities offerings in Brazil, international bond issuances, complex syndicated financings, the structuring of sophisticated security packages and restructurings with the issuance of securities in the capital markets and debt-to-equity conversions. Luiza holds an LLB from Law School of the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets – IBMEC, Rio de Janeiro (2013), Graduate Studies in Corporate Law from Pontifical Catholic University Law School, Rio de Janeiro (2016) and an LLM from King’s College London, London (2020).
Nicholas Walter de Sousa is a member of the firm since 2012, and his practice focuses on corporate matters and mergers & acquisitions, with extensive experience in structuring and negotiating complex transactions. He also advises clients on corporate governance and regulatory matters. He holds an LLB from Cândido Mendes University Law School (2009), Graduate Studies in Tax Law from Pontifical Catholic University Law School (2011), Graduate Studies in Corporate Law from Getulio Vargas Foundation Law School (2011) and earned his LLM from Columbia University School of Law, New York (2012).
Ranna da Cunha Frota Mello Vianna has been part of Pinheiro Guimarães since 2013 in the capital markets and corporate law areas of practice, with focus on structured finance and securitization transactions. Ranna advises clients on a regular basis in the structuring of financing transactions, especially those involving public offerings and private placement of securities. Ranna holds an LLB from Law School of the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets – IBMEC, Rio de Janeiro (2012) and a post-graduate degree in Corporate and Capital Markets Laws from Law School of the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets – IBMEC, Rio de Janeiro (2015).
Thiago Paranhos Neves is a tax lawyer and has been with the firm since 2021. He also represents clients in complex tax disputes, both the administrative and judicial levels. He earned his LLB from Mackenzie Presbyterian University Law School, São Paulo (2014) and holds a postgraduate degree in Tax Law from the Brazilian Institute of Tax Studies – IBET (2017). Thiago is an active member of tax committees of a number of associations in Brazil, including the Tax Law and Social Security Law Committees of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB-SP) since 2017, the Brazilian Institute of Tax Law (IBDT), the Institute of Contemporary Tax Law (IDTC), the Center for Consensual Approaches in Tax and Customs Matters (CCMT), and the Mackenzie University Alumni Tax Law Commission.
