PPU added former mining GC in Lima
Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría announced that Rafael Lengua has joined the firm as its new director of the mining practice group.
Rafael Lengua graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Universidad de Lima in 2004 and also holds an LLM from Columbia University. He is qualified in Peru and NY, and his legal career includes roles in private practice at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York and Sao Paulo, as well as at Peruvian law firms Miranda & Amado and Benites, Forno & Ugaz. Lengua also worked in-house as senior adviser to the Peruvian Council of Ministers.
Prior to joining PPU, he was the general counsel in Peru at the local subsidiary of a mining multinational.
“The incorporation of Rafael is essential to the firm. Peru is a mining country in which the most important companies of the industry operate and it is very appealing to attract new investments, particularly in this new global situation where a substantial price increase of the main minerals is projected. We believe that Rafael’s extensive local and international experience, along with his deep knowledge of the mining sector from the perspective of a legal manager, will allow us to better accompany our mining clients in their activities, businesses and projects in Peru and consolidate our regional presence as leaders in the provision of legal services in the industry”, said Guillermo Ferrero, partner at PPU.
