PPU advises BBVA on merger control matters in Chile

PPU is advising Spanish bank BBVA on competition matters arising from its local merger with Scotiabank in Chile. The latter instructed Carey

Scotiabank is Canada’s third largest bank and it has operations in over 50 countries. Last year, the bank acquired a 68 per cent stake in the Chilean banking operations of BBVA for $2.2 billion.

Director Ignacio Larraín led the team at Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría which advised BBVA Chile. Partners Juan Francisco Gutiérrez and Andrés Sanfuentes were also on the PPU team. 

Scotiabank instructed Carey for this matter, partner Claudio Lizana at the forefront of the squad.

Both Carey and PPU also advised on Scotiabank’s acquisition of BBVA Chile in 2017.
