PPU assists China’s CCECC in bid for Colombia tram project
Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (Colombia) has helped Chinese state-owned China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) win a public bid for a railway project in Bogotá, worth $1.2 billion.
Empresa Férrea Regional (EFR), the public entity in charge of the bidding process, relied on local firm Durán & Osorio Abogados Asociados for the deal.
EFR also hired Colombian firm De Vivero Abogados to prepare the proposal presented during the bidding process, which took place on 23 December.
CCECC was the sole bidder for the concession.
CCECC and EFR will develop an electric tram network, called RegioTram Occidente, to connect Bogotá with the cities of Facatativá, Mosquera, Madrid and Funza as well as 17 other destinations in Cundinamarca department, which surrounds Bogotá. The network will transport around 130,000 passengers a day.
The tram is set to start accepting passengers in 2024 and replaces the now-defunct Bogotá Savannah Railway, which ceased operations in 1991.
