PPU assists with Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline JV in Colombia
Law firm Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (PPU) has advised US-based pharmaceutical giant Pfizer on its creation of a joint venture in Colombia with UK-based GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).
Plans for the new, global company were announced late last year, and in which GlaxoSmithKline will have a majority share of 68 per cent, while Pfizer will hold the remaining 32 per cent.
Pfizer has been operating in the South American country for 62 years. The new company resulting from the fusion will combine the portfolios of both Pfizer and GSK to market painkillers, vitamin and mineral supplements and dental hygiene solutions, among other products.
PPU Legal’s team advising Pfizer in Colombia was led by partner Diego Cardona (pictured), with associate Federica Del Llano.
With offices in Santiago, Bogotá, Barranquilla, and Lima, PPU was formed by a merger between Chilean firm Philippi, Yrarrázaval, Pulido & Brunner, Colombia’s Prietocarrizosa, and the Peruvian firms Ferrero Abogados and Delmar Ugarte, while Spanish-Portuguese firm Uría Menéndez participates in PPU since its inception in 2015.
