PPU elects two new partners

Law firm Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU and Uría (PPU) has elected two new partners in Chile, Marcela Silva and Ignacio Larraín, through a simultaneous vote of the 51 partners that make up the firm’s Santiago, Bogotá, Barranquilla and Lima offices.

Marcela SilvaMarcela Silva (pictured, left) is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and joined the banking, financial and capital market team of PPU in 2007. Her professional practice focuses on different types of financing, infrastructure projects, capital markets and insurance matters.

Silva has represented various lenders, both domestic and foreign, and borrowers and sponsors, in the financing of mining, infrastructure and hydroelectric, solar and wind energy projects, and desalination plants. In addition, she has ample experience in syndicated loans and in advising underwriters and issuers of shares and bonds.

In recent years she has been distinguished by Chambers and Partners as an associate to watch in the banking and finance category by The Legal 500 as a ‘Next Generation Lawyer’ in the banking and finance category, and in 2018 she was recognised as ‘best banking and finance rising star in Latin America’ by Euromoney Legal Media Group’s Americas Rising Stars Awards.

Ignacio Larraín (pictured, below left) is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and joined the firm in 2012, becoming director in 2017.

Larraín’s professional practice focuses on advising on potential cartels, abuses of dominant positions, mergers, proceedings before the competition court, investigations carried out by the national economic prosecutor’s office and on the design and implementation of compliance programs. He has also specialised in competitive consultancies linked to the banking, fuel, telecommunications, retail, laboratories and energy industries.

Ignacio LarrainLarraín is considered by the Global Competition Review and Who’s Who Legal directories as one of the three leading lawyers in Latin America in competition matters under 45 years of age, and as a Star Associate in competition by Chambers and Partners, as Next Generation Lawyer in competition law by Legal 500, as a notable practitioner in antitrust by IFLR 1000 and as a leading lawyer in antitrust by Best Lawyers.
