RAD represents Umicore in sale of stake in IEQSA

Rebaza Alcázar & De Las Casas has represented the Belgian group Umicore in the sale of its 40% stake in Industrias Electroquímicas (IEQSA) to US-based Zochem.

This transaction was completed on 17 August and was announced on the Lima Stock Exchange.

With this acquisition, Zochem, a North American producer of zinc oxide, marks its first investment in Peru and Latin America, and will be able to continue its expansion plans for the development and manufacture of zinc products for emerging green applications, including cost-effective, biocompatible and environmentally friendly emergency batteries and energy storage.

Other participating firms were Rosselló Abogados and Foley & Lardner as advisors to Zochem in Peru and the United States, respectively; while Rodrigo Elías & Medrano acted as Peruvian counsel to IEQSA.

IEQSA is a Peruvian company with more than 60 years of history, listed on the Lima Stock Exchange, which operates an industrial plant for the transformation and production of zinc-based products, located in Callao, Peru.

The group is present in Belgium, Germany, Brazil, China, Japan, France, Korea, India, Poland and other countries. Umicore entered the Peruvian market with its investment in IEQSA in 2003. This transaction completes its divestment in Peru, as well as in assets related to the zinc industry.
