State-owned utility ESPH instructs BLP in $3.6m dispute

Costa Rican law firm BLP acted for state-owned water utility Empresa de Servicios Publicos de Heredia (ESPH) in a $3.6 million legal action against a local gas station.

The dispute – which involves civil and criminal cases – relates to property damages, loss of profits and expenses incurred by the public utility due to a water well that was allegedly polluted by the gas station.

This legal action relates to an issue going back to 2004 when the presence of hydrocarbons was detected in the well, which provided water to the local population.

As a result of the water pollution, the well was taken out of service.

Partners Luis Ortiz and Mauricio Salas led the BLP team.
