T&C advises Kloeckner on the sale of its operations to Gerdau

Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown advised Kloeckner Metals, one of the largest metal fabrication, supply and service companies in North America, on the sale of its Brazilian operations to Gerdau, one of Latin America’s leading steel producers.

Kloeckner has more than 55 branches in the United States and Mexico, and more than 120 worldwide, and entered the Brazilian market in 2011 when it bought the São Paulo distributor Frefer Metal Plus. Since then, it has established a solid presence in steel processing and distribution in Brazil. The transaction reflects Klockner’s strategic decision to optimize its global operations and concentrate resources on high-growth markets.

Gerdau acquired Klockner’s service center, expanding its distribution capacity in Brazil and strengthening its continued expansion in flat steel solutions for the automotive and home appliance sectors. The unit will be integrated into Gerdau’s national distribution network.

Tauil & Chequer Advogados advised Kloeckner and relied on lead partners Christian Roschmann and Lilian Toscani, with the participation of associate Stefano Braga, all from the Corporate and M&A practice, and partner Giampaolo Marzulli, with the participation of associate Mariana Lecker, both from the Tax practice. Counsel Isabela Giorgi, from the Antitrust and Competition practice, also participated.

In-house counsel to Gerdau: Flávia Bonilha.
