TozziniFreire advise IFC on loan to Equatorial Alagoas
TozziniFreire acted as special Brazilian counsel to IFC (International Finance Corporation) in connection with the loan in aggregate principal amount of USD100 million provided by IFC to Equatorial Alagoas Distribuidora de Energia (Equatorial Alagoas). The Loan is granted by a corporate guarantee provided by Equatorial.
IFC’s investment consists of a loan package of up to $250 million for Grupo Equatorial, to be used by one or more of its subsidiaries. The first loan was committed on March 28th, 2025 and consists of a green loan of up to $100 million from IFC’s own account to Equatorial Alagoas. This collaboration aims to enhance energy access, improve system reliability, and reduce environmental impacts amid rising energy demands and the resources will be used to modernize Brazil’s power distribution system, fostering economic growth and sustainable development.
