Uría Menéndez and Batalla Abogados advise on Barceló Hotels’ Costa Rican deal

Batalla Abogados in Costa Rica, Uría Menéndez in Spain and Dutch Caribbean law firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne advised on a multijurisdictional transaction that involved Spanish hotelier Barceló Hotels taking sole ownership of Costa Rica-based rival Occidental Hotels.

 

Barceló already controlled 42.50 % of Occidental’s stock capital. The latest deal saw Barceló expanding its operations in Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Aruba, adding 4,011 rooms to its portfolio, which includes operations in Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, Ecuador and Nicaragua.

Batalla Abogados and Uría Menéndez acted for Barceló Hotels on the acquisition. In addition, Batalla Abogados advised Barceló on obtaining the necessary authorisations from the Competition Authority in Costa Rica.

VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne acted as local Aruban counsel to the Spanish hotel company.
