Viseu announces the Online Betting and Gaming Law Unit
Viseu Advogados has announced the launch of its Online Betting and Gaming Law Unit, a new unit dedicated to offering specialized legal support in response to recent regulatory changes in the online betting and gaming sector. This unit will be led by partners Luis Gustavo Leão (Consumer), Carla Rahal (Criminal) and Mareska Tiveron (Regulatory) (pictured from left to right), and will count on the collaboration of specialists from different areas of the firm.
The Betting and Online Gaming Law Center was created to meet the legal needs of betting companies, online gaming, fintechs and other regulated markets that will be impacted by SPA/MF Ordinance No. 561 of April 8, 2024. This ordinance establishes a comprehensive regulatory policy for fixed odds betting, which includes the certification of systems and rules for means of payment. The Regulatory Agenda for 2024 defines four implementation phases, focusing on certification, money laundering prevention and technical requirements.
As well as directly affecting the betting sector, the ordinance also impacts fintechs and other financial markets, which will need to adjust their operations to meet the new payment and financial crime prevention standards. Companies will have to adapt their processes to new technical and security requirements, obtain the necessary authorizations and implement robust compliance policies to ensure that they comply with the new rules.
