The Latin American Lawyer was in Madrid last week for the Iberian Lawyer Gold Awards Ceremony. The sold out event was a success and was attended by over 200 leading lawyers and compliance professionals from Spain and Portugal. For the first time, the ceremony included awards to global inhouse teams with regional focus and Iridium Concesiones received the gong for Global Team, Focus Latin America. A gallery with the ceremony photos is available here. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists!
In other legal market news, Mattos Filho became the first Brazilian law firm to open an office in London while the trio of international law firms which announced their merger earlier this month are said to be looking for a US partner firm to bolt on. Speculation is rife both sides of the Atlantic but in the meantime CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang (or CMS for shorts) will go live in May 2017.
Elsewhere, Skadden acted for Duke Energy on the firesale of its Latin American assets. In one transaction the energy company sold its business in Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador and Argentina for over $1.2 billion to I Square Capital. The buyer instructed Rodrigo Elias & Medrano on the Peruvian leg of the deal. On a separate operation, Duke Energy sold its assets in Brazil to China Three Gorges, which instructed TozziniFreire and White & Case.
The Latin American Lawyer will be in Bogota, Miami and Mexico in November. Visit our event calendar for more information.
