In February 2016, The Latin American Lawyer organised its first event in Latin America. San Jose, Costa Rica, played host to a lively discussion on Managing risk & integrating compliance with an international business strategy in Central America. (See photos here)

Rio de Janeiro features prominently on the March agenda for The Latin American Lawyer as media partners to the Biennial IBA Latin American Regional Forum Conference and hosts of the second The Latin American Cafe event in the region. 

Elsewhere, Carey was instructed on $15.7 million financing of mining exploration program in Chile while Garrigues added an administrative law expert in Peru. 

Central American law firms were in the news with Arias & Muñoz expanding in Panama via a merger, Consortium Legal acting for Credit Suisse on a $40 million loan to Tropigas, and García & Bodán assisting a Mexican dairy company on its expansion in Nicaragua.

In other market moves, Carlos Treistman, long time co-chair of Morgan Lewis’s Latin America team, left his firm to join Orrick.

Orrick, the international law firm, announced the expansion of its newly launched Houston office with several lateral hires, including Carlos Treistman and Rodrigo Dominguez.
