Greenberg Traurig hires two attorneys in Phoenix, USA and Los Cabos, Mexico

Greenberg Traurig has added two hospitality-focused attorneys to strengthen its real estate and hospitality practices in Phoenix and Mexico. Carlos A. Sugich (pictured left) joins as a shareholder in the Phoenix office and co-chair of the Americas Hospitality Group, while Carlos Freaner (pictured right) joins as a shareholder in Mexico, effective May 7, 2026.

Alongside his co-chair role, Sugich will serve as managing shareholder of the firm’s new presence in Los Cabos — a market he knows well, having led the launch of his prior firm’s Los Cabos office nearly two decades ago. The move builds on Greenberg Traurig’s existing Mexico City office, which counts more than 70 attorneys, and extends the firm’s cross-border capabilities into key hospitality corridors.

Licensed in both Arizona and Mexico, Carlos Sugich brings more than 20 years of experience representing U.S. and international clients in complex domestic and cross-border real estate, hospitality, and development transactions. His practice covers acquisitions, development, joint ventures, financing, and operational matters across the United States, Mexico, and Latin America, with a focus on hospitality, master-planned resort communities, and mixed-use projects, including the organization of private golf and social club membership plans. He also advises on international expansions and matters related to nearshoring and manufacturing in Mexico. Sugich holds an LL.M. in international legal studies from New York University School of Law and a J.D. equivalent from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Law.

Carlos Freaner represents national and international investors, hotel and resort operators, and developers in hospitality-focused real estate and M&A transactions across Mexico, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, financings, hotel agreements, condominium developments, and leasing. He has experience advising luxury resorts, golf courses, and master-planned community developers, as well as lenders and borrowers in complex real estate project financing. Freaner holds an LL.M. from the University of San Diego School of Law and a J.D. equivalent from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.

Greenberg Traurig has approximately 3,100 lawyers across 51 locations in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.
