Felsberg adds ambassador and partner in two hires
Felsberg Advogados has brought in two senior figures to lead newly reinforced practice areas: former ambassador Fernando de Mello Barreto as counsel and head of the firm’s new International Trade and Investments practice, and André Marcassa as partner responsible for Asset Recovery and Enforcement. The moves come as global trade disruption, tariff policy debates, and cross-border asset disputes place growing demands on firms with specialist capabilities.
Fernando de Mello Barreto brings more than four decades of experience in Brazilian diplomacy, having served as ambassador to Australia and Russia and as consul-general in London, Boston, and Hartford. In his new role, he will advise clients on multilateral trade agreements — including Mercosul and the EU — tariff policies, and geopolitical dynamics affecting corporate decision-making. According to de Mello Barreto, integrating the reading of trade agreements, tariff policies, and geopolitical dynamics is fundamental to a more strategic approach, as international trade is undergoing a period of reconfiguration with direct impacts on how companies structure their operations.
André Marcassa joins with more than 15 years of experience in complex disputes, including fraud cases and creditor-debtor conflicts spanning multiple jurisdictions. As head of Asset Recovery and Enforcement, he will lead sensitive matters involving the location and recovery of assets across borders. He notes that asset recovery cases typically involve different jurisdictions and require coordinated, structured approaches from the outset.
