Alcogal represents Intervial Chile in first PPP of Panama
Alemán Cordero Galindo & Lee has represented Intervial Chile in the award of the public tender called by the Ministry of Public Works of Panama for the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in Panama.
PPPs are long-term contracts entered into between one or more public entities and the private sector to create, develop, improve or maintain public infrastructure for the provision of public services. The PPP Regime in Panama was created by Law No. 93 of 19 September 2019, regulated by Executive Decree No. 840 of 31 December 2020 and amended by Executive Decree No. 119 of 27 April 2023.
The transaction was closed on 29 April 2024 and involves the rehabilitation, improvement and maintenance of the Pan-American Highway East, a crucial project for the country’s infrastructure.
The contract was signed between the Panamanian government and the contractor Intervial Chile, part of the Colombian ISA Group. This pioneering project under the PPP model aims to rehabilitate and upgrade 246 kilometres of the Pan-American Highway East, the only road connection between the province of Panama and the eastern region of the country. The project will benefit approximately 145,000 people and has an investment of approximately USD 283 million.
The consultancy involved ensuring compliance with all required regulations.
