Alfonso Ugarte joins Cuatrecasas’ New York team

Cuatrecasas has announced that Chilean lawyer Alfonso Ugarte (pictured left) has moved to New York City to head the firm’s Latin American departments of Mergers and Acquisitions, Finance and Special Situations practice in the United States and Canada.

The incorporation of Alfonso as a resident partner in the US office aims to promote new and important international investment business opportunities for the firm, especially for the markets of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, where Cuatrecasas has offices.

Alfonso will be joining a team already formed by M&A partners Antonio Baena (pictured centre, left) and Diego Pérez-Yarza (pictured centre, right), and which will also be joined this September by associate Ignacio Inigo (pictured right), a specialist in restructuring, distressed transactions and finance, with previous experience in London and New York.

Ugarte specialises in M&A, advises national and international investors in multi-jurisdictional transactions and entrepreneurs in public and private transactions in numerous sectors, such as banking, infrastructure, mining, retail and technology. He also advises debtors and creditors in structured finance transactions, restructuring and bankruptcy reorganisation processes and distressed financing.

Ignacio Inigo specialises in restructuring and distressed debt. He is an expert in domestic and international debt restructuring and refinancing, and in financing transactions with different structures, including corporate, acquisition and project finance. Inigo also has experience in distressed transactions; and in the acquisition and sale of credit and asset portfolios and individual names.
