Barros & Errázuriz promotes four new partners

Cristóbal Pellegrini, María Olga Rivera, Luca Marinovic and Tomás Kovacevic join the firm as partners

 Barros & Errázuriz has announced the appointment of four new partners. They are Cristóbal Pellegrini, part of the firm’s Energy and Natural Resources team; María Olga Rivera, from the Financing and Infrastructure practice; Lucas Marinovic, from the Corporate M&A and Venture Capital group; and Tomás Kovacevic, a member of the firm’s Tax team.

Cristián Barros, managing partner of the firm, stated: “We are happy to welcome these four new partners, who have excelled for years at the firm. Cristóbal Pellegrini (pictured top left), is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Master of Laws (LL.M.), Northwestern University, United States, Diploma in Economic Administrative Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He worked as a foreign associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP. He has been a professor of Commercial Law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and of Electricity Law and Project Development at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez. He focuses his practice on regulated markets in general, especially in advising electricity companies in the different areas of the industry (with special emphasis on the generation and transmission segments), both in corporate and regulatory matters and in the negotiation of supply contracts and tolls; the structuring, financing and implementation of energy projects; acquisition of assets and companies; bidding and other administrative processes; sanctioning procedures and dispute resolution between industry players; as well as advising construction and real estate companies in the development of projects and in administrative procedures.

María Olga Rivera (pictured top right) is a lawyer from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Queen Mary University, England. She worked as a foreign associate at White and Case LLP, London, with a special focus on energy infrastructure projects and asset finance. In addition, internally, she is part of the firm’s Gender Equality Committee. She has been a professor of the Master in Business Law at the Universidad del Desarrollo and focuses her practice on infrastructure, construction, public works concessions, structured and corporate financing and the purchase and sale of companies, participating in projects related to the acquisition of electricity companies, construction of a liquefied natural gas terminal, as well as the construction and development of port projects for mining; the development of the first sulphuric acid production plant in the country, construction and financing of projects in the area of infrastructure, among others.

Lucas Marinovic (pictured bottom left) is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Stanford University. He worked as a foreign lawyer at Sidley Austin LLP, New York. With experience in Corporate Law, he has specialised in advising domestic and foreign clients in M&A processes. He has played a leading role in the development of the Venture Capital practice, advising both entrepreneurs and investors in the creation, development and financing of emerging companies. He has extensive experience in the banking and financial services, private equity, food and beverage, software and technology, aquaculture, airlines and media industries.

Tomás Kovacevic (pictured bottom right) is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Master in Tax Management, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Taxation from New York University. He worked as a foreign associate at Fox Horan & Camerini LLP, New York, and as Tax Policy Advisor to the Ministry of Finance. He has worked as a professor of Tax Law at the Universidad del Desarrollo and as a professor of the Diploma of Tax Specialization at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez. He focuses his practice on local and international taxation matters, considering the structuring of transactions and reorganizations of local and international companies in various businesses and industries, the organization of investments in the capital market and funds, venture capital and emerging companies, among others.

With these new additions, Barros & Errázuriz’s structure now comprises 31 partners and more than 100 lawyers.
