Manfred Zink

Bofill Mir strengthens free competition and economic regulation area

Bofill Mir Abogados has announced the incorporation of Manfred Zink (pictured) as director of the antitrust and economic regulation practice.

This appointment comes to strengthen a practice that has impacted almost all areas of law, especially in preventive, merger and contentious matters. “I am here to continue strengthening what was already being done in antitrust, and to put my knowledge and experience in this area and in economic regulation at Bofill Mir’s disposal”, says the new director.

Manfred joins the experience of partner Tomás Pérez, leader of Bofill Mir’s litigation department, who has an outstanding track record in antitrust litigation. “In January of this year, I took on the responsibility of relaunching the firm’s Litigation area, and the incorporation of Manfred, with his experience and background, not only reinforces the antitrust litigation practice that we have been strengthening, but above all, represents a significant boost for the strengthening of preventive advice, compliance and merger operations”, added Tomás Pérez.

Prior to this move, Zink was head of the Compliance Division of the National Economic Prosecutor’s Office (FNE), and previously the first head of the FNE’s Enforcement Unit. He developed his career in the private and public sector, where, thanks to his last position, he led the investigations that led to the first injunctions for interlocking practices, for providing false information in merger operations and for failure to notify shareholdings in competitors; likewise, he was in charge of a series of actions for non-compliance with measures imposed in resolutions of the competition authorities.

Manfred has focused his career mainly on economic, antitrust and regulatory matters. He holds a law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and an LL.M., with a specialisation in Economic Regulation, Antitrust and Law and Technologies, from the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, he has developed an academic career in these subjects, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
