BU and GP counsel on $1.2bn loan to Ecopetrol

Brigard Urrutia has counselled Ecopetrol, and Gómez-Pinzón has advised the lenders on a USD $1.2bn club deal external credit facility granted to Ecopetrol.

The mixed nature of Ecopetrol made the transaction complex as it required authorisation from the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, and these resources will allow the company to manage its external public debt.

This strong performance reflects the confidence of the international market in the strategy of one of Colombia’s leading public companies.

The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank), Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria New York Branch (BBVA), Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase Bank, Itaú Chile New York Branch and Stard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited acted as lenders.

Brigard Urrutia’s team was led by managing partner Carlos Fradique-Méndez (pictured left) and partner Maria Fernanda Diago (pictured centre), and was supported by associates Viviana Araujo and María Camila Ordóñez Santamaría, specialised tax advice from Daniel Duque, and foreign exchange advice from Cristina Román.

Gómez-Pinzón’s team included partner Ricardo Fandiño De La Calle (pictured right), senior associate Catalina Prieto Nunez and associate Andrés Eduardo Gómez Campiño.
