Carey advised Bimbo on Chilean acquisition

Carey acted for Mexican bakery group Bimbo on its acquisitions of Nutrabien, a Chilean company producing baked goods and sweets.

Bimbo is headquartered in Mexico City, and is the world’s largest baking company. The company is on expansion mode of late, having acquired US rivals East Balt Bakeries on a deal which gave Bimbo an expanded presence in 8 new countries.

Nutrabien, was founded in 1986 and, since 2008, is owned by CCU, (Compañía Cervecerías Unidas) a Chilean beverage company.

The deal, which value was not disclosed, is subject to approval by the National Economic Prosecutor under the new mandatory merger control regime in Chile. The new regime came into effect in June 2017.

Partners Lorena Pavic and Salvador Valdés led the Carey team acting for Bimbo.

CCU and Nutrabien instructed Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana for the acquisition, and, separately, Claro y Cía for antitrust matters.
