Carey assists IFC in $350m financing to Engie Chile
Carey has assisted the International Finance Corporation (IFC), as lender, in a US$350 million financing to Engie Energía Chile to implement a decarbonisation plan.
This transaction was closed on 20 June and involved the Chilean and US (New York) jurisdictions, with Hunton Andrews Kurth acting as NY counsel to IFC.
The facility will be used for Engie’s energy transformation plan, which consists of a decarbonisation plan that will switch from fossil fuel-based power generation to non-conventional renewable energy sources and the installation of a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
The in-house lawyers advising on the transaction were Paola Morales for IFC, and Felipe Artigas with Francisca Vásquez for Engie.
Hunton Andrews Kurth’s team comprised international counsel Alejandro Silva and international associate James Channing.
Carey’s team was led by partners Felipe Moro (pictured left) and Manuel José Barros (pictured right), assisted by associates Loreto Ribera, Victoria Alonso, Pablo Fernández, Magdalena Menchaca and Andrés Ibarra.
