Clyde & Co adds arbitration specialist with Latin American expertise

International law firm Clyde & Co announced that Alejandro Garcia has joined the partnership in London.

Garcia has over a decade of experience across major arbitration seats in Latin America, Europe and Asia, focusing on investment treaty and international commercial arbitration, particularly in energy-related matters.

Garcia was born in Chile and started his legal career in that country after graduating in law from Universidad de Chile. He finished an LLM in Harvard in 2005 and currently sits as a World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) panellist.

He joins Clyde & Co from Winston & Strawn where he was a senior associate. He has also worked at Herbert Smith Freehills and Bird & Bird.

Peter Hirst, co-chair of Clyde & Co’s global arbitration group, commented on the appointment: “We’re delighted to have Alejandro join the firm. With his extensive international arbitration expertise, particularly in Latin American disputes, he is going to prove a real asset to our clients.”

In the statement, Garcia added: “I am thrilled to be joining Clyde & Co’s market-leading arbitration group. It provides me with an enviable global platform from which to grow a practice and make the most of a real opportunity for growth in Latin America, something the firm’s recent office opening in Miami and Mexico City will facilitate.”

Clyde & Co now has 48 offices worldwide, including 13 across the Americas (Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, Canada and the US). It launched in Miami in 2016 and in Mexico in May 2017.
