Diaz Reus opens office in Guatemala
Diaz, Reus & Targ, the international law firm, announced the launch of an office in Guatemala.
The new office, its 11th in Latin America, will be led by Guatemalan attorneys Manuel Arturo Soto and Rodolfo Sosa de León.
Soto is a former member of the Guatemala Congress, the Latin American Parliament, and the monetary board of the Central Bank of Guatemala. He was also appointed by the Congress of Guatemala as Justice of the Supreme Court. His public service career includes roles as Minister of Interior under President Oscar Berger, Guatemala’s ambassador to Mexico and Jamaica. In addition, Soto was also legal vice-president for Latin America for a multinational corporation. He started practicing law in 1969 at Soto & Soto, a firm founded by his father in 1931, and later, after the merger of three Guatemalan law firms, as a partner at A. D. Sosa & Soto.
Sosa de León has practised law for more than 40 years. He has served as president and chairman of the Board of Basic Resources and is a former member of the Center for the Defense of the Constitution of Guatemala (CEDECON). Sosa de León is also a former professor of notarial law and civil procedural law of the faculty of legal and social sciences of the Rafael Landívar University and the legal advisor of the Francisco Marroquin University (ad honorem). He was member of the board of trustees of the Universidad del Istmo. Sosa is an active member of the arbitration centre of Guatemala and had a previous role as chair of the litigation practice of a prestigious law firm in the country. He is currently of Chairman of Empresa Petrolera del Itsmo (EPI).
