Hogan Lovells adds Mauricio Llamas as a new partner

Hogan Lovells has announced the addition of Mauricio Llamas (pictured) as a partner in Mexico City, joining the Global Regulatory & Intellectual Property, Media, and Technology (IPMT) practice group as a member of the Environment & Natural Resources practice and ESG committee.

Scott Reisch, co-chair of the firm’s Global Environment & Natural Resources practice, commented, “Mauricio is the go-to lawyer for high-profile matters, such as advising on environmental compliance and social performance criteria for the new Mexico City Airport project.”

Omar Guerrero Rodríguez, managing partner of Hogan Lovells’ Mexico City office, added: “I’ve known Mauricio’s work for some time, and we are thrilled to welcome him as our partner. He has extensive experience advising leading companies on environmental matters across a number of industry sectors, including energy, chemicals, consumer products, mining, waste management, and others. I expect that he will be a key part of our continued growth in Mexico, through our offices in Mexico City and Monterrey.”

Mauricio, who joins the firm along with a group of one senior associate and two associates, previously served as Jones Day’s head of Government Regulation in the Environmental, Health and Safety practice in Mexico City. For more than two decades, he built a practice spanning the scope of environmental regulatory issues, including advising on environmental impact processes, land use, urban development, air emissions, hazardous materials and waste, contaminated site remediation, climate change, natural resource exploitation and ESG-related corporate strategy. He has solid experience leading high-risk mergers and acquisitions proceedings, advising clients on compliance, contingency, crisis management and corrective action plans, as well as handling complex domestic litigation, including clean energy actions against the Mexican federal government.

He holds a law degree from the Universidad Anáhuac and a Diploma of Advanced Research Studies from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He has also served as a full professor of environmental law at the Universidad Anáhuac Law School and as academic coordinator of its Master’s programme in Environmental Policy, Management and Legislation.
