Jones Day recruits former Credit Suisse legal director in Miami

Jones Day announced that Sergio Alvarez-Mena has joined the firm as partner. He joins from Credit Suisse Securities (USA) , where he was a director in the legal and compliance department. 

At Credit Suisse, Alvarez-Mena was responsible for the company’s cross-border business, including in the Latin American, European, and Asian markets. He also focused on compliance matters relating to “Know Your Customer” regulations, with attention to money laundering, corruption, and similar illegal activities. 

Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Alvarez-Mena was an executive director at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. He was formerly lead counsel for the Private Wealth Management division, as well as lead counsel for all U.S. based cross-border business including the Latin American division, and its New York, Geneva, Miami, and Sao Paulo offices. In addition, he served as lead counsel to Merrill Lynch International Latin America Private Client division before joining Morgan Stanley. 

At Jones Day, Alvarez-Mena will be based primarily in Miami, advising clients in Florida and Latin America. He will work at the firm´s financial institutions litigation and regulation practice group.
