As we approach the end of the year, on both covers we recap the most prominent firms in the transactional market during the first half of 2022, according to their number of transactions and with information gathered from the Transactional Track Report (TTR).

As part of the firm’s 50th anniversary, in our Portuguese version we interviewed Tito Andrade, managing partner of Machado Meyer, about social transformations, adapting to changes and their attraction to constantly overcome challenges, a quality that has allowed them to continue advising their clients for more than 5 decades.

With respect to the Andean region, the mining industry benefited in the wake of the pandemic, so we reached out to Luis Miguel Elías, lead partner of the Mining and Projects practice at Rebaza, Alcázar & De Las Casas, who shared with us his perspective on the mining sector in Peru and expectations for the rest of 2022, available in the Spanish version.

Another significant conversation we had in the Spanish version was with Carlos Monroy, legal director of Mazda Mexico, about the company’s path towards carbon neutrality, and the challenges of being a legal director in the automotive industry.

Also, in the Portuguese version, we compiled the most memorable moments from the 42nd International Intellectual Property Congress of the Brazilian Association (ABPI), focused this year on innovation and society. Held at the end of August in São Paulo, the event saw lawyers and academics reconvene in person for its panels, plenary sessions and roundtables.

In this regard, we also interviewed lawyer Gabriel Leonardos, president of ABPI, who, on the occasion of the 42nd edition of the event, pointed out the importance of intellectual property in Brazilian society.

Also in this edition of the magazine, we cover the first anniversary of the SAF Law in Brazil, which, in a country highly fanatical about the sport, allows football clubs to become companies. In the article we explore in detail how these changes have come about for football teams.

In the Spanish version, with the help of renowned lawyers, we prepared a brief analysis of the suspension of bullfighting in Plaza Mexico, the world’s largest bullfighting venue, prior to the bullfighting season, as well as its repercussions and also the situation in other Latin American countries.

In this version, we continue to learn about the use of compliance, this time in Mexico, from the World Compliance Association.

Finally, also available in Spanish, two interviews by the Iberian Lawyer group magazine: the McKinsey initiative, “Portuñol”; and Ten questions to Borja Acha Besga, general director of legal advice and corporate affairs at Endesa and Giulio Fazio, director of legal and corporate affairs at the Enel group.
